During the global surgery congress in Essen a pre-conference practical course will be organized. From Tuesday 8th till Thursday the 10th of October several global surgical subjects will be discussed in small practical workshops with specialists who worked or currently are working in low and middle income countries. This course is organized for specialist or (young) doctors with interest in global surgery from inside and outside Europe and offers a wide spectrum of global surgical subjects.
This “hands-on” course will be an exclusive opportunity to gain extra knowledge in global surgical subjects and learn from international teachers and participants about their experience in working in LMIC circumstances. It will give theoretical and practical updates which can be used in more primitive healthcare circumstances. Besides all knowledge, it will give the participant network opportunities with national and international colleagues.
Program
This course will offer a wide variety of either surgical and non-surgical subjects and give the participant a nice background of
Day 1 will be full day courses, gynecology, traumatology (basic fracture course) or Ear Nose and
Throat (ENT) problems in LMIC. The participant can choose 1 of the 3 courses.
Day 2 and 3 will be 2 half day courses in which 2 of the 3 practical subjects can be chosen by the participant.

Practical application
During application 1st, 2nd and 3rd choice can be submitted by the applicant. Allocation of the practical will be based on the application choice and availability. If the 1st choice practical is fully booked, the participant will be allocated in the 2nd or either 3rd choice practical. Participation is for the full 3 days and registration will be closed if the maximum of 60 participants is reached.
Registration fee
Registration fee includes participation in the workshops (including study material) and lunch and will be €500,- for participants from high income countries and €200,- for low-and middle income
countries. If participants of the pre-conference workshops from LMIC may not be able to pay the requested 200 Euro participation fees, they should write an unformal email to the organizing committee and request partial funding from DTC or NSIS.
Hotel, breakfast and dinner are not included in the registration fee. The registration is only definitive if the payment has been completed!
