Prof. Emmanuel A. Ameh (MD, PhD) is a Professor of Paediatric Surgery and Chief Consultant Paediatric Surgeon at the National Hospital, Abuja, Nigeria. He has published over 250 papers in peer reviewed journals on various aspects of paediatric surgery and surgery, with particular focus on the burden and access to paediatric surgical care in low and middle income countries. In addition, he has edited 3 books in paediatric surgery Professor Ameh’s global health work focuses on global surgery and access to children’s surgical care in low resource settings. He led the creation of the National Surgical, Obstetrics, Anaesthesia and Nursing Plan for Nigeria, which is the first ever country surgical plan to include and prioritize children’s surgery and is currently leading implementation of the plan. Professor Ameh has been a long-time advocate for scaling up and strengthening surgery and children’s surgical care in low- and middle-income countries.
