Jurre van Kesteren (MD), a gastro-intestinal surgeon certified in surgical oncology at Amstelland Hospital, The Netherlands, is renowned for his early career achievements in West Africa, notably leading the Masanga Ebola response during the 2014-2016 outbreak. Completing his surgical training in 2022, he expertly merges his clinical skills with a zeal for global health advancement. He co-founded Global Surgery Amsterdam (GSA) to use research, technology and education in closing the global surgical care gap. As a Netherlands Society of International Surgery (NSIS) member, he drives health improvement through training initiatives in The Netherlands and Malawi. Alongside his clinical work, he is actively engaged in a PhD program at Amsterdam UMC, aimed at enhancing the education of surgical residents in Sierra Leone, evidencing his ongoing commitment to health education and global surgery initiatives.
