Matthijs Botman (MD, PhD) is a plastic surgeon, currently working in the AUMC in Amsterdam and has a broad focus on patients with conditions that need reconstructive surgery. He worked as a Tropical doctor in the Republic of Congo and Tanzania. His experiences in LMIC showed Matthijs the need for more accessible training materials in these settings. He believes that accessible education tools and standardized courses offer a sustainable alternative for the traditional “ short-term surgical mission” model of the past.
