Prof. Oliver Muensterer (MD, PhD) obtained his medical degrees at the University of Munich and the University of Alicante. After postgraduate training in General Surgery in Washington, DC, and a residency in Pediatrics at Duke University in Durham, NC, he returned to Munich for training in pediatric surgery. He completed his formal education with a fellowship in Pediatric Endosurgery at the University of Alabama in Birmingham, AL. Since then, he held appointments at the University of Leipzig, the University of Alabama, the Weill Cornell Medical College, and the Johannes Gutenberg University, before accepting to lead the pediatric surgery program at the Dr. von Hauner Children’s Hospital at the University of Munich. His research focus is telemedicine, pediatric foregut diseases, using magnets for treatment of esophageal atresia, fetal interventions, and multiphoton microscopy for pediatric tumors and Hirschsprung disease.
