Sister Dr. Sarah Deogratius, a Tanzanian medical doctor and nun, has made remarkable contributions to public health, healthcare delivery, and leadership. As an active member of the Congregation of the Sisters of St. Therese of the Child Jesus Bukoba Catholic Diocese, and Medical Council of Tanganyika, she skillfully combines her religious calling with her medical career to serve many. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Medicine (MD) and a Master’s in Public Health, working with the Global Surgery Umbrella to enhance emergency, critical, and obstetric care in Tanzania. As the Medical Director of Cardinal Rugambwa Hospital, she successfully led the fight against COVID-19, with many patients testifying to the hospital’s role as a cornerstone of healing in Dar es Salaam. Additionally, she serves as Secretary General of the Tanzania Catholic Medical Doctors Association (TCMDA) and she is the founder and president of the Student and Young Doctors Surgical Association in Tanzania (SYSAT) aiming at improving Access to surgical care to underserved population.
